For the uninitiated, Kontiki is a raft-building competition with a rich tradition in scouting. Scouts from all over Gauteng annually converge on Murray Park to show off their raft-building and camping skills. When the rafts are completed, they take to the water and only return 24 hours later.

Kontiki 2012 (Gauteng) was held from 25 – 27 May 2012 at Arrowe Park, Benoni. Congratulations and thanks to all the scouts, scouters and parents involved in getting Fairland to Kontiki 2012. The Fairland land and water crews did Fairland proud by winning the Raft Safety competition and coming 11th overall. Thanks also go to the organisers for putting on a great event despite the challenges of using a new venue and the adverse weather conditions that beset it in March. In January we held a swimming Gala at the Cliffview pool. What fun we had whilst working on our Swimming Interest Badge. Well done to the Cubs who attended the Gala as well. Alex earned his Scout name at this event – FISH for swimming like a professional. Well done to the organisers for a well planned and fun filled day!
